CDC Warns that A Brand of Eyedrops May Be Linked to Serious Infections and Death

On January 20, 2023, the Center for Disease Control (CDC) issued a statement urging consumers to discontinue the use of EzriCare Artificial Tears in light of the significant risk of eye infections and other issues posed by the use of the product. In particular, consumer use of EzriCare Artificial Tears has been linked to a bacteria called Pseudomonas aeruginosa, which is resistant to most antibiotics and can cause eye infections and other serious complications, including permanent vision loss and death.
The CDC has identified at least 50 individuals in multiple states, including New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut, who reported use of EzriCare Artificial Tears prior to being diagnosed with an eye infection.
On February 3, 2023, the product manufacturer, Global Pharma, issued a recall on EziriCare Artificial Tears, and has since asked distributors of the product to pull it from their shelves. The CDC has recommended that consumers of EziriCare Artificial Tears should immediately stop using the eye drops until further testing has been completed.
While this is a developing story, the manufacturers of EzriCare Artificial Tears may be liable for the damages caused to individuals who suffered injuries from using their product.
