5 Of The Best Baseball Slip, Trip & Falls Caught On Video

Lever & Ecker, PLLC May 27, 2015 Slip Trip & Fall

Major League Baseball is one of America’s favorite pastimes. Rooting for the home team and enjoying a ballpark hot dog is synonymous with summer. From Little League to the minors and the majors, players batting, rounding bases, and sliding into home plate make us proud to be Americans. However, sometimes, comedic relief comes from this unlikely source, and those that are captured on video keep us laughing repeatedly.

Our Top Five Baseball Fails

#1 – Alcides Escobar

Take for example, the game between Toronto and Kansas City on April 29, 2014, Alcides Escobar catches a grounder and while throwing the ball to first base, he slips and falls on the wet grass. Ouch, it looks like that hurt. You must admit though, that it was a bit funny when he fell sideways onto the field.

#2 – Adam Jones

On 06/06/2014, Adam Jones of the Baltimore Orioles not only breaks the bat, he does a remarkable job at mowing down an umpire in his path as he approaches second base. Maybe someone should remind him that he is not playing tackle football. This is truly a gut busting move. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hdGBiuIyBeE

#3 – Camera Man Fail

The next video on the list happened during an October 2011 Playoff game. The Texas Rangers were playing the Devil Rays hoping for a spot in the World Series, when a camera man face plants into the ground while following a Rangers player on his way to home plate.

The next epic fall occurs off the playing field. It is a mascot’s job to entertain, make us laugh, and get us involved in the game. While entertaining the crowd, the mascots from each team appear to be holding a dance contest on a small above ground stage. What happens next is sure to put a smile on any face.

#5 – Fausto Carmona

One of the funniest falls in caught on video during a game, occurred during a Cleveland Indian’s game in 2011. Pitcher Fausto Carmona, on his way to first base, trips over himself and struggles to regain his balance, only to plummet to the ground with all the grace of a bull in a china shop. This one has to go in the record books as one that will make you laugh so hard you cry. I bet Carmona even laughs at it now.

Bonus – Fan Mishaps

Just to show that it is not only the umps, players, and camera operators with two left feet, some fans could take home the prize for epic falls. A fan, trips at Citi Field in July of 2012, during a Mets and Philly match up, while high fiving another fan. Watch how fast he gets back to his feet.

Another fan moment for the record books occurred June 30, 2013, when a Royals fan is so eager to catch Billy Butler’s foul ball that he forgot he was in a stadium and goes backward over the seats. Yet somehow, he manages to catch the errant ball.

So, next time you are at the ballpark, have the camera ready for anything, you may be lucky enough to catch one of these rare moments. America’s game can be full of surprises. Whether it is the fans, players, mascots, or officials, the possibilities are endless. If you happen to capture on of these moments on video, you could have the next YouTube homerun.
